Green Roofs

A Green Roof is landscape over structure. The public benefits are mitigation of the urban heat island, stormwater management, and wildlife habitat. The private benefits are thermal insulation, acoustical insulation, roof membrane protection, and improved aesthetics. Green roofs contribute to LEED points for Sustainable Sites.

EMLA has designed six green roofs in the Austin area. Four have been implemented and two are in construction. The Austin City Hall received the Award of Excellence from Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC). Ms. McKinney presented “Green Roofs in Texas: Four Case Studies" at the 2009 GRHC Conference.
