Armed Forces Reserve Center

The new 60 acre Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC) and Joint Vehicle Maintenance Facility near Bergstrom Airport will be a new facility for the Texas National Guard. Over 340 trees will be planted along the vehicular entry boulevard, in the pedestrian entry plaza, and in the parking lots. The project is aiming for LEED Certified.

The Entry Plaza will honor the reserve forces with “bars and stars” in the paving pattern and tree grates. The Office of Homeland Security required a design that included Force Protection to prevent vehicles from driving into the plaza. The solution was large boulders set individually at the curb and set as a wall one third of the way to the building entry. (Renderings from Turner - Ramirez and Associates)
