Urban Design

Good urban design is the harmonious composition of a city’s major physical components: transportation network, districts, streetscapes, open space, buildings, and landmarks. The design of each individual element affects and speaks to all the other components within the urban fabric. Knowledge of these elements is the key to creating projects that respond to the overall context and to the specific surrounding environment.

With thirty-five years in Austin and over nine years on the Austin Design Commission, EMLA brings the depth of knowledge to an urban design project that enables creative, practical solutions. EMLA also understands the current policies, regulations, and city staff review processes which set the opportunities and constraints.
