Landscape architect Eleanor McKinney has created a beautiful arrangement of native and adapted plants in front of her south Austin home. The lawn of buffalo grass gets mowed once a year. A rain barrel provides water for the vegetable garden. Deciduous trees are important to any green garden, but the shade they give us can be a obstacle to gardening. McKinney plants spring flowers that take advantage of the sunlight available before the leaves bud out.
