Mexican American Cultural Center

The new Mexican American Cultural Center occupies an undiscovered portion of parkland right in the heart of downtown Austin. Designed by Teodoro Gonzalez de Leon, an internationally famous architect from Mexico City, the Center, promises to be an inspiring new facility for the community. The site design focuses on expanding the concept of the building out into the landscape. Curved planting beds complete the crescent shape of the architecture and signify future phases to be developed. Gardens with plants common to Mexico and Austin accent the walkway from the building to the plaza. Off-site work includes a streetscape along River Street leading to the main entrance. Recovery of a Brownfield Site through bio-remediation provides a sustainable, holistic approach to site development. Consulting services include hardscape design, planting, and irrigation.
